What is a DDoS attack - Full Explanation

The DDoS attack is designed to knock the website offline by flooding it with a huge amount of requests until it crashes. It begins with a computer that been compromised by malware allowing hackers to take control. Malware is a software intentionally designed to cause damage to a computer server or network. 

Hackers combined that computers with other infected computers to created what's called a botnet. This botnet can consist of hundreds of thousands of computers , hackers direct the botnet to target a particular server with data clogging it up with more connections than it can handle.

That overwhelms the server and prevent normal users from access it.DDoS attack has been used by groups such as the hacktivist collective Anonymous to target the website of companies or local governments they disagree with.
